Hardware Barcode Scanner Support

Qflow supports external hardware barcode scanners on Android devices. These scanners send barcode data directly to the app, allowing faster check-in without relying on the device camera.

Compatible Scanners

The following scanner types are supported on Android:

  • Honeywell scanners - communicate via broadcast receiver on Android

  • Unitech scanners - communicate via broadcast receiver on Android

  • iMin scanners - integrated scanner units

Hardware barcode scanners are compatible with Android devices only.

Setup

No special configuration is required in the Qflow app. Hardware scanners send barcode data as keyboard input or via broadcast, and the app processes it automatically.

  1. Connect or pair the hardware scanner with your Android device.

  2. Open the Qflow check-in app and sign in to your event.

  3. Scan a barcode with the hardware scanner.

  4. The app receives the barcode data and processes the check-in.

Disabling the Camera Button

When using a hardware scanner exclusively, you can hide the on-screen camera button to avoid confusion.

  1. Open Settings in the Qflow check-in app.

  2. Toggle Disable 'Use camera to scan' to the on position.

The camera scan button is now hidden from the scan screen. Barcode input is accepted only from the connected hardware scanner.

Tip: Use Disable 'Use camera to scan' when your check-in team should only scan with the hardware device, preventing accidental camera scans.
